WARWICK – From Friday through Sunday, March 5-8, the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and its Merchant Guild held its first annual “Winter Blues Weekend.” Country Chevrolet sponsored this year’s event, which was chaired by Tim Mullally, co-owner of Style Counsel.

Blessed with mild temperatures and blue skies, downtown Warwick merchants enjoyed brisk activity as visitors came to enjoy the “Blues” music of Larrama, the Dan Brothers Blues Band, the OC Blues Express, the Rum Boogie Blues Band and Triage performing under a tent in the courtyard on Railroad Ave.

The annual “Winter Blues Weekend” was designed to fill the gap between Home for the Holidays and Springfest.

During the three-day celebration participating merchants and restaurants offered their own special events, entertainment and “blue” sales.

Country Chevrolet, for example, offered a special discount on any “blue” car or truck in stock. The Eclectic Eye held a blue pottery sale and next door, visitors could sample blueberry crepes at La Petite Cuisine or a special blue martini at Grappa Ristorante.

Forever Jewelers held a blue topaz sale and Style Counsel opened “Blue,” its new men and women’s casual clothing and jeans store on Railroad Avenue.

Corwin Florist, Etched in Time, Fabulosity, Guy’s Diner, Marilyn’s Consignment Shop, Mima’s, Shugga, Style Counsel Women’s, Toy Chest, Yesterday’s, and others also held special promotions.

In honor of its fourteenth anniversary, Frazzleberries offered a 14 percent discount on any blue item and an opportunity to win a “Blue Rhapsody” gift basket from Vera Bradley.

“God smiled down on Warwick,” said Mullally. “We had great weather. The people came out. The merchants did business and we will definitely do this again next year. Mark your calendars for the first weekend in March.”
